You are welcome to write the occasional letter to your sponsored child and they will be encouraged to reply. It is very exciting for the children to receive a written letter with stamps from a foreign country. E-mails cannot be sent as the Revival Centre does not have a direct internet connection.
To send a letter by post, use the postal address of the Revival Centre given below and write your sponsored child’s full name at the top of the address. As the post is delivered to a post office box in Kampala it may be some time before the letter is collected and responded to.
Also please adapt your language to the lingual skills of your child, primary age children will be able to understand simple English, whereas secondary age children will be quite competent in written and spoken English. Address: The Revival Christian Life Centre, PO Box 21505, Kampala, Uganda, East Africa.
Pastor Ivan will arrange for a member of staff to help the child read the letter and compose a reply. Please do not put your return address on the letter to be read by the child but enclose it on a separate piece of paper. This is a poor country and there is a risk that friends or relatives of your sponsored child may try to abuse your generosity.
When you write to your sponsored child please be sensitive to the fact that they do not enjoy the same comforts that we do and that they do not have access to a TV with world news or sport. They will love to hear about your family and receive a photo and perhaps a postcard of your town.
We appreciate your generosity but we cannot allow you to send money or gifts directly to your sponsored child. The money given by sponsors is used by the Revival Centre to provide for the needs of all the orphans. It is not fair to those orphans who may not have a sponsor to see their fellow orphans receive money or gifts. It can cause jealousy and can give the recipient children false ideas about their relationship with their sponsor.
Children need to remain motivated in their studies and learn how to become independent. Pastor Ivan is keen that the children develop their self-esteem and confidence and do not grow up in a culture of dependency.
While all the children are equally loved and special we do allow sponsors to say whether they wish to sponsor one or more children and to say whether they would want to sponsor boys or girls or have no preference. We have found that some sponsoring families with children often like to sponsor a little brother or sister for each of their own children. We hold a list of male and female orphans and the children are assigned a sponsor stricty in the order they appear in the list.
